Inspection of cordless power tools
Inspecting cordless power tools is mandatory under the Working Conditions Decree, which states that all work equipment subject to influences that may lead to deterioration and give rise to hazardous situations must be inspected periodically. Fortunately, this is fully supported within Centix.
With our QR code stickers and Centix OnSite, combined with your own PAT tester, you can quickly inspect your cordless power tools anytime and anywhere.
Best practice for inspections in Centix
Where cordless power tools with charger and battery were previously registered and issued as a single set, the various components are now registered separately in Centix. This has two reasons:
- The battery charger requires a different inspection than the cordless power tool
- Most customers standardise their cordless power tools, which allows batteries to be interchangeable. As a result, chargers are typically used for multiple cordless power tools.
Battery charger
The battery charger is inspected in accordance with the in your country applicable standards for electrical inspection with a PAT tester. In most cases, the full test is carried out with the appliance tester, and in Centix OnSite a selection code is used to indicate that the charger has been tested. At a later moment (usually at the end of the day), the appliance tester is read out and the measurement results are processed in Centix. Because a selection code has been applied to the charger via Centix OnSite, any processing errors (such as incorrectly entering the object ID on the measuring instrument) can be easily identified.
Cordless power tool
Within Centix, we provide standard maintenance and inspection plans for inspecting the most common types of cordless power tools. This is because the inspection points for an angle grinder are, by nature, very different from those for a crosscut saw. The cordless power tool is visually inspected and, if necessary, subjected to a functional test. Using a QR code sticker, you can easily identify the relevant tool with Centix OnSite. You then start the inspection and quickly and easily work through the predefined questions. If a deviation is found, you can easily take a photo and add a note. Common deviations can even be selected from a predefined list.
Battery
Some of our customers also register batteries in Centix. In some cases, a maintenance and inspection plan is assigned to a battery. Our recommendation is to register batteries in Centix as well, in order to maintain a complete overview of all issued tools.
“Centix Online has delivered significant speed gains when inspecting tools. This is because we can immediately see whether everything is in order: what is inspected and what is not. If something is out of order, we can easily take a picture and add it to the system.”
“We have to deal with laws and regulations. That means mechanics are not allowed to walk around with unapproved work equipment. Using Centix, we can keep an eye on that.”
